The WISE program strives to increase the number of women in the science,
engineering, math, and technology fields through our outreach, recruitment, and
retention efforts from middle school age through the undergraduate
levels.
WISE provides support programs including scholarships, mentoring,
professional/technical workshops, advising, and social activities. It is our
goal to create an academic and social climate at Missouri S&T to enhance
your educational experience.
The WISE office has a women's social lounge, computer lab,
resource library, and conference room for student meetings. The Missouri
S&T student professional Society of Women Engineers is also housed
within our office.
INTRODUCTION
The 30 year-old Women in Engineering Program was established in
1975 and, for many years, primarily served as a scholarship program. However,
throughout the 2000-2001 year, a Corporate Development Council, including
alumnae in corporate positions, students, and faculty/staff, developed a
renewed mission and strategic plan that includes several new student programs
for girls in engineering, math, and science. In 2004 The University officially
renamed the WEP to Women in Science and Engineering to clearly communicate the
science component of the program. With all of these exciting changes taking
place, the WISE has indeed experienced a New Beginning!
MISSION
To promote diversity and support the needs of female students
within the university community with the aim of increasing the number of female
graduates entering our nation's engineering and science workforce.
VISION
The shared vision of the Women in Science & Engineering Program at Missouri
S&T is to create a campus environment that reflects and encourages the
rich diversity of today's global culture.
