Norma joined Monsanto in 1973 as a structural engineer. She has held various engineering and management positions which include architectural, civil, structural, supervisor, product manager, manager of marketing programs, marketing development director and director of equal opportunity affairs. In 1991 she was named business director of the Polymer Modifiers & Process Chemicals Strategic Business Unit. In 1997 Norma became vice president of Solutia Inc., a newly formed spin-off of what was formerly the applied chemistry business of the Monsanto Co. Solutia, which manufactures chemicals, fibers, polymers and related products, is ranked as one of the top 20 chemical manufacturers in the U.S.
Norma also served as a director of the Monsanto Fund from 1988-1995. She is currently a director of the Solutia Inc. Citizenship Fund and a member of the Advisory Board of Directors for the YMCA of Greater St. Louis. She has served on the board of directors of the Nursery Foundation and Conference on Education and is active in the Math Science Network of Greater St. Louis, past chair of the Junior League of St. Louis membership diversification committee and past treasurer of Continental Societies, Inc., St. Louis Chapter. Norma served as a Loaned Executive for the United Way of Greater St. Louis and a member of a United Way budget allocation panel. She is currently a member of the President?s Advisory Cabinet for the Girl Scout Council of Greater St. Louis.
Norma is a graduate of UMR with a bachelor?s degree in civil engineering and a master?s degree in engineering management. She completed additional education through the Executive Management Program at the University of Indiana-Bloomington and INSEAD, Fontenbleau, France. She is also a graduate of the Transformational Technologies Inc., Executive Excellence Program. Norma is a registered professional engineer in 13 states, including California, Arizona, Illinois and Missouri.
